Trump Corrects Statements He Made About His Personal Health

Former President Donald Trump is once again addressing questions about his health—this time by correcting the public record and offering additional context around visible bruising that has drawn attention in recent months.

In recent remarks, Trump clarified that he did not undergo a second MRI scan in October, as had been widely reported or assumed. Instead, he explained that he received a CT scan, a different type of medical imaging that serves a separate purpose in clinical care.

He also appeared poised to explain why he frequently shows bruising on the back of his hands, nearly mentioning his daily aspirin use before moving on—an important detail that adds medical context to a topic that has fueled online speculation.

The Difference Between a CT Scan and an MRI

Trump was explicit in setting the record straight: there was no second MRI. The acknowledgment matters because MRI and CT scans are often lumped together in public conversation, even though they serve distinct roles in medical evaluation.

An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is commonly used to examine soft tissues, joints, and neurological structures in high detail. A CT (computed tomography) scan, on the other hand, uses X-rays to quickly capture cross-sectional images of the body and is often ordered to assess injuries, internal bleeding, or other acute concerns.

Clarifying which test was performed helps prevent misunderstanding—and underscores how quickly health narratives can take on a life of their own when details are left vague.

The President’s Bruised Hands and Aspirin’s Role

Photos and video showing bruising on the backs of Trump’s hands have prompted repeated questions about his health. While Trump did not fully elaborate, he nearly referenced daily aspirin use as a possible explanation.

That detail is medically relevant. Aspirin is a common medication, particularly among older adults, because of its role in cardiovascular protection. However, one well-known side effect is increased bruising, especially in areas with thin skin like the hands and forearms.

Aspirin works by reducing platelet aggregation, which helps prevent blood clots but also makes it easier for small blood vessels to leak under the skin after minor bumps—sometimes without the person even noticing an injury.

Why Hand Bruising Is Common With Age

Even without medication, bruising becomes more noticeable as people age. Skin naturally thins over time, and the protective fat layer beneath it diminishes. Combine that with blood-thinning medications like aspirin, and visible bruising becomes far more likely—and often benign.

Medical experts routinely note that hand bruising alone is rarely a sign of serious illness, especially when it appears intermittently and without other symptoms.

Public Figures and Health Transparency

Health questions follow presidents and former presidents closely, in part because voters want reassurance—and in part because visibility invites scrutiny. Trump’s clarification highlights how small inaccuracies can snowball into larger narratives if left unaddressed.

By distinguishing between an MRI and a CT scan and hinting at a common medication side effect, Trump offered a reminder that not every visible sign warrants alarm—and that medical context matters.

The Bigger Picture

At a time when health information spreads faster than ever, Trump’s comments serve as a case study in how easily speculation can outpace facts. Clarifying the type of imaging performed and acknowledging everyday explanations for bruising helps reset the conversation.

For the public, it’s also a useful reminder: common medications and normal aging can explain many visible changes, even in people who spend much of their lives under a microscope.

  6. It still does not mean he is in good health. I worked in a hospital for years and I told everyone that bruising on his hands didn’t mean anything was wrong with him. I still do not believe he is in “excellent” health. His words not mine. His Drs. can not dispute his claim due to HIPPA regulations.
